There are two types of NSC supported printers. There are ink tank printers, and laser printers. Ink cartridge printers are not NSC supported, so a domestic company can not produce such printers. All printers must have the following features:
- A 5″ screen for display and controls
- ADF for document scanning
- FOIP? capability
- RJ45 port for LAN?
- SDUC card reader
Screen
The 5″ screen will offer controls. This will include copy, fax, printing, and scanning. The user will select the function, and then the settings for that function. This will include interaction with the SDUC card. Since this is an LAN printer, any device on the same LAN should see the printer, and function as necessary. The screen will provide any relevant information that the user will need to know.
ADF
The printer will support duplex capabilities from the ADF. This will allow both sides of the page for copies, faxes, and scans. There will be an output tray which will allow the document to return to the user from while still being fed documents. If scanning, the user would select before the operation of where to send the scans. This could be a thumb drive (if there is a USB-C port), or to the SD card slot (card needs to be inserted). This could also include computers that are on the LAN, or even to an email address since it is connected to the WAN? as well.
FOIP
Since there are no POTS? resources anymore, there will be no telephone jack. However, the printer will have a client installed, and once the SIP? settings have been inserted, the printer will be able to connect to another fax machine, and send as quick of a connection as 56.6kbps and support for color faxing. This will allow the recipient to see the fax as intended by the sender.
RJ45
All printers must support LAN connectivity, and the best way to do this is through an RJ45 port on the printer. The minimum capability is 10MBPS which sounds low, but this speed is to allow the manufacturer to cut corners where it will matter least. A novel is about 1MB?, so a 10MBPS connection speed is really not that bad. This will also allow the printer to send scans to an email address. The printer must have an IMAP4 email address credentials inserted into the printer for this to work. The printer can not act like an email? function without these settings.
SDUC
SDUC is the standard format for handhelds, and computers. This will eventually support up to 128TB of storage. While the 2TB maximum on SDXC is overkill for a printer, the goal is compatibility with the computer, and handheld that they may have to interact with. With that said, there will be a need. to read the entire SDUC card. However, it might make more sense to have an SDXC card to move files to the printer.
